Gluten-free
Gluten is the protein that occurs in many types of grain. Many people are unable to tolerate gluten because of a chronic disease, known as coeliac disease. The mucous membrane of the small intestine responds hypersensitively to gluten. This results in inflammation which damages the intestine’s epithelial cells. As a result, nutrients are poorly absorbed, and remain undigested. There are many possible symptoms, from weight loss and vomiting through to depression. This intolerance is a life-long condition; it is partly hereditary and at present can only be treated with a gluten-free diet. Interquell cereals works with gluten-free raw materials such as maize, rice, millet, buckwheat, quinoa and teff.
One very important point to note is that gluten-free products can only be guaranteed if there is strict separation of production lines from the raw materials silo right through to the packaging station and if CIP cleaning facilities are used. Compliance with the limit value of 20 ppm is regularly confirmed by checks at our own laboratory.
